The Nevada Automotive Test Center (NATC) is currently seeking talented candidates for a Senior Instrumentation Technician role at our Silver Springs, NV location. At NATC, our Senior Instrumentation Technicians work directly with a team intent on designing, manufacturing, and testing innovative automotive mobility solutions.

Founded in 1957, the Nevada Automotive Test Center (NATC) is a privately owned, independent test, evaluation, design and engineering facility offering development and certification testing to customers worldwide. We have substantial international experience, which allows us to evaluate products intended for global markets knowledgeably and objectively. NATC has compiled an extensive database of worldwide operational and infrastructure conditions allowing accurate definition of user duty cycles and creation of test programs that are representative of service environments around the world. NATC is a leading innovator in translating real-world conditions into validated virtual proving ground simulation and virtual prototyping.

NATC's location in the great basin of Nevada allows our team to access terrain that can represent 85% of the world within a 150 mile radius, providing an excellent test bed for off-road mobility. NATC's operational area includes 1200 sq. miles of natural terrain, that when coupled with 6,200 acres of privately owned test courses, create an unparalleled testing area available to our engineers to innovate and solve our customer's problems.


Position Summary:
Works with the Technology Services department supervisor to develop and program data collection requirements based on customer specifications and needs. Coordinates the internal and external calibration of instrumentation test assets and maintains database calibration records. Responsible for ensuring internal sensor calibrations are completed in accordance with NATC standards as well as industry standards. Senior Instrumentation Technicians (SIT) provides quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) over test asset and acquisition system installations in support of test program data collection efforts. SIT leads the development of standard operational procedures, work instructions, and accompanying documentation in support of ISO 17025 compliance efforts. SIT's lead the research, development, and validation of alternative sensor solutions and data acquisition systems.


Primary Functions:

  1. Plans, architects and implements successful systems from a general set of customer needs.
  2. Consults with Test Engineers to analyze test program needs, objectives, goals, and input/output data collection requirements.
  3. Leads efforts regarding preventative maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of instrumentation assets and systems.
  4. Develops and validates calibration procedure documentation to meet internal and external industry standard requirements.
  5. Creates end user documents and system documentation - assists with the quality of systems in instrumentation, data processing and systems engineering.
  6. Provides quality assurance and quality control review of instrumentation asset installations for assets under test.
  7. Maintains instrumentation department records using filing system and computer databases.
  8. Schedules calibrations and tracks repairs of all instruments within the Calibration Maintenance Database.
  9. Interfaces with external vendors to provide calibration services including selecting appropriate vendors, monitoring quality of service, and establishing comprehensive vendor list.
  10. Acquires and reviews test data, recommends acquisition and sensors changes or subsequent data processing techniques to support technicians and engineers, and uploads collected data to the internal network.
  11. Assists with the analysis, definition and document system requirements for data, workflow, logical processes, hardware and operating system environment, interfaces with other systems, internal and external checks and controls, and outputs.
  12. Analyzes systems performance to find causes of system instabilities or undesired operation.
  13. Analyzes and sets design constraints for instrumentation systems including data acquisition, signal conditioning, filtration and sensors.
  14. Trains end users or technical support staff on the instrumentation process and industry standards as it relates to sensor installation and calibrations.
  15. Provides technical assistance by responding to inquiries regarding errors, problems, or questions with instrumentation systems.
  16. Relates well with employees and customers at all levels and at all times in a professional and personable manner.

Secondary Functions:

  1. Assists in preparing, writing and reviewing technical proposals and final reports.
  2. Utilize basic electronic and instrumentation theory to analyzes and sets design constraints to build custom instrumentation. Topics include anti-aliasing filters, ground loops, common mode rejection, signal to noise ratio, power consumption, etc.
  3. Assists in company electrical and electronic system development efforts, or other duties as assigned.

Pay:

$30.00 - $37.00/hr

Position Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Associate of Science degree from an accredited college/technical school in instrumentation, electronics or metrology with two (2) years work experience in the field of instrumentation, electronics, or metrology; or a combination of education and four (4) years' work experience in instrumentation, electronics or metrology.
  2. Must possess or be able to obtain and maintain a current Nevada Driver's License.
  3. Able to work in excess of 40 hours per week with varied work shifts.
  4. Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
  5. Ability to effectively communicate, verbal and in writing.
  6. Must be able to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
  7. Must be detail-oriented
  8. Must have excellent organization and time management skills.
  9. Must be flexible and able to handle multiple priorities, with the ability to adjust to high pressure and rapidly changing business conditions.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. BSME or BSEE with two (2) years' experience in the field of instrumentation, electronics, or metrology.
  2. Five (5) years' experience analog and instrumentation use, and troubleshooting As well as data acquisition
