Job Details:

I. GENERAL SUMMARY:

The Lead CPD Tech reports to the CPD supervisor/Manager. This position is responsible for assuming the charge position as needed. The Lead tech oversees the daily operations in collaboration with the supervisor and is a liaison between CPD and the OR and Clinical areas. Needs to be able to prioritize the work load, and to work independently. Will also be expected to do the work in all areas of CPD. Must have critical thinking skills and communicate appropriately with staff in CPD and in the OR.

II. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Assumes a leadership role throughout their shift and will assume the charge position as needed.

Will help onboard new staff and train studentsduring their clinical rotation.

Communicates with the OR for updates and chances in surgery schedule, prioritizes work based on surgical schedule. Assembles specialty case carts as pick lists require, sends completed case carts to the OR, and returns unused supplies from the OR to proper inventory.

Helps to prioritize the surgical instrumentation for emergency cases and next day cases.

Helps to ensure that all flexible endoscopes are accounted for communicates with the instrument coordinator and supervisor/manager if one goes out for repair or is missing.

Disassembles instrumentation and processes it accordingly to manufactures guidelines. Must be able to give corrective criticism to members of the team that are not following the Instructions for Use (IFU).

Address damage /repair of instrumentation upon arrival into decontamination area and reports to supervisor/manager.

Maintains collaborative, team relationships with peers and colleagues in order to effectively contribute to the working groups achievement of goals, and to help foster a positive work environment

Work directly with the CPD Manager, as well as with the OR Nurse Managers and OR Lead Nurses of each service, to compile and prioritize the need for replacement instruments.

Responsible for the monitoring of all sterilization processes that affect the achievement of sterility to include mechanical, chemical and biological process as well as procedures for lot, control and traceability. Practices proper safety precautions when working with chemicals and equipment.

Utilizes the communication book/board and shift reports as necessary to keep the staff current with changes, updates, etc. Monitors quality assurance of all items ready for sterilization for correct identifications and packaging to insure proper sterilization.

Enforces hospital policies related to safety and job performance.

Performs other similar and related duties as required or directed.

Job Qualifications:

JOB KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

Must have excellent interpersonal skills

Must have the ability to set priorities.

Must be both well-organized and able to work independently under stressful conditions.

EDUCATION:

High school diploma required.

Graduate of a CPD Technician program preferred.

CRCST or CBSPD Certification required.

An equivalent combination of education and experience, which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed above, may be substituted for the above education and experience requirements.

IV. WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The job will require lifting of up to 30lbs.

Exposure to several differentcleaning agent used in the department.

Work requires occasional/frequent/ continuous typing/computer keying, lifting of equipment and possible cleaning.
