Position Description

The Data Modeler role encompasses designing, implementing, and maintaining data models across Snowflake, Azure or AWS environments. Responsibilities include collaborating with stakeholders to translate business requirements into effective data models, optimizing database performance, and ensuring compliance with data governance standards. Data Modelers play a crucial role in maintaining the medallion architecture, facilitating seamless data integration and interoperability within cloud environments while staying abreast of technology advancements to continuously enhance data modeling practices. The ideal candidate possesses strong analytical skills, proficiency in data modeling tools, and expertise in Snowflake, Azure or AWS database management systems.

Responsibilities:

1. Data Modeling:

  • Design, develop, and maintain conceptual, logical, and physical data models that accurately represent the organization's data assets.

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to understand business requirements and translate them into data models that support data-driven decision-making and business objectives.

  • Implement best practices for data modeling, including normalization, denormalization, and optimization techniques to ensure data integrity and efficiency.

  • Design a historical aggregation strategy to optimize data retention

2. Database Design and Optimization:

  • Work closely with database administrators and developers to implement data models into database systems efficiently, including Snowflake, Azure, and AWS.

  • Perform database performance tuning and optimization to enhance system performance and scalability in cloud environments.

  • Partner with data engineering teams to define allowable table structures, naming conventions, and schema design.

  • Conduct regular reviews and updates to data models to accommodate changes in business requirements and technology advancements in Snowflake, Azure, and AWS ecosystems.

3. Data Governance and Compliance:

  • Ensure data models comply with data governance policies, standards, and regulations.

  • Collaborate with data governance teams to establish data modeling standards, processes, and procedures.

  • Strategy to manage data models, key capabilities and tooling recommendations

  • Participate in data governance initiatives to improve data quality, consistency, and security across platforms.

4. Data Integration and Interoperability:

  • Develop data integration strategies and solutions to enable seamless data flow between systems and applications.

  • Integration with new and existing data governance and data design applications

  • Ensure data models facilitate interoperability and data exchange across disparate systems and platforms.

  • Collaborate with integration architects and developers to implement data integration solutions effectively.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.

  • 7+ years proven experience in data modeling, database design, and database management systems, with expertise in Snowflake and AWS environments.

  • Strong understanding of data engineering, data modeling concepts and techniques, including relational, dimensional, and NoSQL data models.

  • Proficiency in data modeling tools such as ERwin, ER/Studio, or PowerDesigner.

  • Experience with database management systems such as Snowflake, Azure, and AWS.

  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

  • Certification in relevant areas such as Azure, Snowflake, or cloud computing is desirable.

Base pay range: $136,900 - $160,000, commensurate with experience.
