About the Team

At Williams-Sonoma, Inc., we build industry-leading technology solutions in the areas of OMS, PIM, Payment, Middleware, Logistics, and Care Center technologies to serve our global customers across eCommerce, Stores, and B2B channels. The Supply Chain Engineering team is responsible for all the engineering functions of software development including solution design, architecture, detailed technical design, development, quality assurance, test automation, performance engineering/testing, production implementation, and defining the monitoring KPIs.

We are a multi-location team with team members in US and international locations. About the Role

The Williams-Sonoma, Inc. Supply Chain Engineering organization is seeking an energetic and talented engineering director to lead cross-domain micro services teams, driving high-value, high-quality features to our industry-leading Supply Chain capabilities. This role will work across the entire functional domain of all the brands including Williams-Sonoma, west elm, Mark and Graham, Green Row, Rejuvenation, and the Pottery Barn family.

The ideal candidate would have the ability to attract, recruit and retain the industry's best talent and have the technical expertise to effectively influence/participate in architectural/design discussions, strategic planning, roadmaps, and decisions to ensure we build impactful, compelling, and scalable solutions in an incremental fashion, unlocking hyper-growth, data-driven decision making and creating a world of possibilities for our customers/business.

Success in the role requires agility and results-orientation, strategic and innovative thinking, a proven track record of delivering new customer-facing software products at scale, rigorous analytical skills, and a passion for automation and data-driven approaches to solving problems.

Responsibilities

  • Lead cross-functional domain teams across OMS, PIM, Pricing & Promotions, and Supply Chain Systems to deliver technology strategy and program roadmap.
  • Lead the architecture and designs to provide best in class technology solutions.
  • Collaborate with Product Management and Business partners as needed to drive results.
  • Attract, select and retain critical talent for the team; coach team members in coding and development skills.
  • Provide clear, specific goals to the team and communicate performance feedback regularly through regular 1-1 meetings and performance reviews.
  • Facilitate Communities-of-Practice in critical technologies.
  • Facilitate and encourage continuous education efforts for your team both on key technologies and also the Williams-Sonoma, Inc. business domain.
  • Estimate development effort, perform resource allocation, plan implementations and system rollouts.
  • Assist in continually improving the Engineering organization and making it a great place to work.
  • Develop a solid understanding of critical systems and processes.
  • Play a big role in transforming Williams-Sonoma Inc. into a technology hub that envisions and delivers the future of omnichannel retail with innovative solutions by hiring top talent and building a strong lasting presence in the technology community.
  • Collaborate with Production Support to continuously evaluate health of the systems for scalability and performance.
  • Actively participate and lead if required production support triage calls for key production issues.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Criteria

  • 15+ years of overall experience in developing and delivering technology solutions with multiple active tracks.
  • 7+ years of experience building and managing teams of software engineers, technical leads, and managers. Track record of continuously optimizing how teams work.
  • Technical expertise to understand the architecture, systems, & problems, identify patterns, suggest solutions, and make the right decisions.
  • Ability to matrix manage projects through the entire lifecycle (concept to completion).
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to lead technical professionals.
  • Ability to systematically gather relevant information from different sources to address an issue and make a prompt and insightful decision.
  • Excellent organizational and leadership skills.
  • Ability to build constructive business relationships and gain the trust of others.
  • Demonstrated ability to anticipate, mitigate, and resolve conflicts across work groups.
  • Proven experience in developing and executing plans, project financials, meeting deadlines and operating under tight time constraints.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including demonstrated experience delivering effective and articulate presentations to different audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to negotiate with and manage external vendors.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and influence others within a matrix environment.
  • Comfortable with ambiguity and calculated risk-taking.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related field, or equivalent work experience.

Technical Competencies required:

  • Software delivery leveraging agile practices at scale.
  • Technical expertise and hands-on experience with implementing and owning enterprise level systems.
  • Open-source software development languages & frameworks like Java, Spring, Databases, NO SQL, Cassandra, etc.
  • Hands-on experience in building and governing Microservices preferably in OMS, PIM, Supply Chain domains.
  • Front-end technologies such as Micro Front Ends, JavaScript Frameworks like React.
  • Knowledge of latest UI design trends like API-first Development, Voice UI and AI technology.
  • Expertise in building highly scalable and transactional customer-facing applications.
  • Good understanding of infrastructure, networks, and security with a focus on security life cycle management and cybersecurity.
  • Experience with building CI/CD and DevOps solutions.

Additional Engineering skillset needed in below key areas:

  • Implementing, testing and operating advanced software security techniques in compliance with the Williams Sonoma Software Security standards.
  • Develop non-functional requirements for the new and existing capabilities in the above functional areas.
  • Performance Testing of UI, Microservices, Order management capabilities.
  • Working closely with DBA to design relational and non-relational databases.
  • Define scalable data persistence solution including partitioning and DB sharding.
  • Proven track record of ownership and technical leadership in the latest platform infrastructure technologies and tech stacks, such as Kubernetes, Kafka, etc.

The expected starting pay range for this position is $195,000 - $225,000. Applicable pay ranges may differ across markets. Actual pay will be determined based on experience and other job-related factors permitted by law. In addition to competitive pay, compensation may include a variety of other components like benefits, paid time off, merit, and bonus opportunities.
